Killavilla Utd 'B' 3 - Rearcross U-13's 2

An Easter Saturday morning trek to Roscrea proved fruitless for the Rea boys on this occasion after going under on a 3-2 scoreline, indeed Rearcross will rue not converting chances created in the opening half that ultimately handed the initiative to the home side. The visitors made a flying start as Andy Kinnane crossed inside the opening minute, however the ball was cleared. Cillian Kennedy and Andy Kinnane were on target minutes later, but the keeper was able to gather. Cian O'Toole was then in the action as the effort pulled wide of the post. Patrick Dawson was in space on the edge of the box midway through the half, however it was proving to be a difficult outing for the Neill Ryan Joinery sponsored side as the effort dragged wide. Stephen Rochford was next up with a good strike, however Killavilla shot stopper Harry Fleming saved. A Rearcross back four of Aaron Kennedy, Brian Nolan, Danny Poyzer and Paul Nolan performed admirably throughout, however Killavilla managed to eke out the only goal of the half against the run of play when Darren Doyle's free kick from the edge of the box caused consternation on the goal line as the ball finished in the net with five minutes remaining. The home team had claims for a penalty waved on seconds later and then Paul Nolan put in a crucial tackle to avert the danger. Cillian Kennedy blasted over on the stroke of half time to leave Rearcross scoreless at the midway stage. A lively second half saw Rearcross on the offensive from the tip off but again the Rea boys failed to breach a resilient Killavilla rearguard where Conor Phelan and Darren Doyle were particularly impressive. The Roscrea outfit stretched their advantage on 44 minutes when Josh Moloney was credited with getting the final touch following a goal line skirmish. Rearcross showed more purpose for the remainder of the game and pulled it back to the minimum with seven minutes left to play with an excellent left footed finish from Stephen Rochford to the far corner. A failed clearance attempt two minutes later gave the initiative back to Killavilla as Jamie Ryan got in to prod the ball inside the far post. Rearcross turned in a strong finish to the tie and hit the target in stoppage time with another fine left footed strike, this time from the boot of Patrick Dawson. The visiting side can take some heart from two smashing goals, but left it too late and departed Villa Park empty handed as a result. On a positive note, Sean Malone made a welcome return following a lengthy spell out through injury and impressed when introduced in the second half.
